UniFirst Wins APEX Award for Publication Excellence for President's Club Promotional Mail Campaign

WILMINGTON, Mass. () - UniFirst Corporation (NYSE: UNF), a North American leader in providing customized work uniform programs, corporate attire, and facility service products, has won a 2019 APEX Award of Excellence for the design and implementation of the company's recent President's Club promotional mail campaign.

This is the second consecutive APEX award that UniFirst has earned for their marketing communications programs—last year having won an award for the cover design of the company's Uniform Rental Catalog®. This year's winning entry focused on UniFirst's President's Club, a prestigious designation that recognizes and rewards top sales people for achieving challenging year-long sales goals. Rewards that include an all-expenses-paid vacation for two to a luxurious vacation destination.

Now in its 30th year, the APEX awards recognize extraordinary work by professional communicators, based on excellence in editorial content, graphic design, and overall communications. The annual program attracts entries from businesses throughout the United States, with more than 1,200 entries in this year's competition.

"Our UniFirst President's Club (internal) promotional mail campaign is an opportunity for our creative Team Partners to really think outside of the box in order to produce compelling direct-mail pieces that accomplish our goal of incentivizing our sales team throughout North America."

UniFirst's winning entry in the "Campaigns, Programs & Plans—Marketing & Public Relations" category highlighted the many features of their direct mail campaign, which kicked off with a spiral-bound tent calendar featuring stunning images of Aruba, the destination for last year's President's Club reward vacation. Other elements of the campaign included a poster sent to each of UniFirst's 260 locations to serve as a daily reminder of what's at stake; a series of dynamic postcards that highlighted the luxurious amenities awaiting UniFirst President Club achievers; and other creative mailers, including a luggage tag, an interactive pop-up card, and an augmented reality (AR) mailer that transported viewers to the island paradise with a smartphone app.

"This campaign provides an excellent example of how to motivate a sales team to achieve its goals," says Ken Turturo, executive editor of Communications Concepts, Inc., sponsor of the APEX awards. "Through multimedia efforts including display posters at all company locations, a letter from the company president, calendars, and wonderfully illustrated and enticing direct mail postcards and letters—with a trip to Aruba as the ultimate prize—the sales team was surely motivated to achieve the company's goals and be rewarded, themselves, in the process. It was a great campaign."
